The 2007 Roswell Scion Invasion

Roon and his Scion won a 2nd place in the Street Class and 1st in Fan Favorite at the 2nd Annual Scion Invasion in Roswell, New Mexico this past weekend. The only minor problem was that at first he was more interested in a "group hug" from the Scion Girls than the trophy until he found out he couldn't take the Scion Girls home!

Another Talented Artist

Valencia County has another award winning artist who stops by the coffee shop when he has time. Jerry Morelos won first place at the 2007 New Mexico State Fair for his ironwork bench entitled, Tres Angeles.

Humming birds

Why can't they share? I was just amazed by two Hummingbirds and a feeder with four feeding tubes and still the can't share. Amazing creatures they flutter up, down, forward and backwards with eze. They fight each other at 60 miles an hour chase each other long distances and burn more energy than if they just shared. So tiny, graceful, beautiful, and mean. Still what a joy to watch.

Jemez colors

Fall in New Mexico brings out some wonderful Colors and events such as; Green chili roasting, New Mexico wine festival, the Santa Fe fiesta and Zozobra, the Apple festival, Hatch chili festival, the New Mexico state Fair, the Whole Enchilada festival, the Crownpoint rug auction. As the air chills and warm cups of coffee are the must for everyone lets remember to take time to enjoy each aspect of the above. Take a little more time and slowly savor them as time passes so fast. As the saying goes take time to smell the roses!(or coffee)

Photos from the Spanish Market in Santa Fe

Proud parents Steve and Jeanette Otero along with their daughter-in-law Anna and award winning artist son Nicholas. It was difficult to find a hat big enough to keep the bright sun out of Steve's eyes after finding out that Nicholas won the Arch Bishop's Award, the Purchase Award, and 1st place for the nine panel alter screen Nicholas created. He also won 1st place for his small retablo and the Heritage Award for a collaboration another artist that consisted of a retablo with a straw cross frame. We are lucky to know Nicholas because he is a really nice guy in addition to being a terrific artist. His parents have reason to be proud not only of his accomplishments as an artist but they also did a good job of raising a well-rounded son. He will really be an asset to the students at Los Lunas Middle School when he starts his first teaching job on August 6th.

The "Houston" Gate

You don't have to go to Texas to have a piece of history. This gate was created by Sam Houston (no, not the original) and now has a place of honor on Steve and Jeanette Otero's new home!

Fill a need

We need to find someone or some purpose to have a breakfast. Raise some help and or money or we will get rusty. We did several by this time last year. Are we complacent or just caught up in our very important lives? We are designed as a human to feel, hurt and have sympathy for others, not just empathy. I know collectively we should be able to come up with a need to fill.

How Many Days????

The average life expectancy in the United States Is 77 years with this information I have around 9,490 days of life.
How many days do you have left? How well will all the parts work in 1,000 days from now?
Now that you are reflecting on eternity, thoughtfully answer the question what three things do you want to accomplish during the rest of your life?
Put your 3 things in comments

Peru Missions

Many thanks to all who attended the Peru missions fund raiser located at the rear of the Luna Mansion in Los Lunas today. We were treated to wonderful sharing of skits, stories, fellowship and fajitas. The weather was warm but the air was full of inspiration and love. Thanks to all who helped put this event together.

Coffee clan be safe

What is summer? A time for fun and sun. To go on vacation, Hit the open road, work in the yard. There are many things to do, places to see, people to visit and projects to complete. Just keep a few things in mind. Kids and Pets need extra care in the hot sun, water and sunscreen. (Yes, charley if you can catch the dog put some on it.) Help keep them safe. You big kids need to remember everyone else is doing the above things and not see you on your motor-bike, keep extra watchful this summer. But have fun and post to blog. You can log on from any where there is a computer.

Remember our fallen heros

What is common too most of us? We all have freedom to use as we see fit. We individually set up our lives as we see fit. The vast majority on countries do not allow there countrymen to do as they wish. We some times think we have fewer freedoms than we do in comparison to other countries. We can debate this very issue because of those freedoms. I am thankful to all our service men and women that continue to ensure those freedoms. I am extremely in awe of some of the men and women of World War II. They were put to the test of protecting our future and our freedom in the true sense of those terms, as a nation and country. Thank you for your sacrifice!
This small tribute is for a man I never met, yet seem to know. My father was also a W.W.II vet. One of our coffee group is mourning the loss of her father, may god comfort her and the family. Keep Dorothy of the Thursday Girls in your prayers. Please post comments.

Pre-wedding coffee clan party!

Irish Wedding Blessing
May the road rise to meet you.May the wind be always at your back.May the sun shine warm upon your face,The rains fall soft upon the fields.
May the light of friendship guide your paths together.May the laughter of children grace the halls of your home.May the joy of living for one another trip a smile from your lips, a twinkle from your eye.
And when eternity beckons,at the end of a life heaped high with love,May the good Lord embrace youwith the arms that have nurtured youthe whole length of your joy-filled days.
May the gracious God hold you bothin the palm of His hands. And, today, may the Spirit of Lovefind a dwelling place in your hearts.
Amen.

Heart of "the coffee Clan"

Acts 20:35 And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

I have seen the members of the "coffee Clan" give of time and money to help various causes. This is the true sense of community too gather as one and help out a group or individual that needs us. No one shouts from the roof about how they did this or that, just work through what ever is at hand till the task is accomplished. I thank you guys for all that you get done, and may you be blessed for giving rather than receiving. Have a great week! p.s. had fun picking on Dean Saturday morning!

Man and Mentor

In Greek mythology, Mentor was the son of Alcumus and, in his old age, a friend of Odysseus. When Odysseus left for the Trojan War he placed Mentor in charge of his son, Telemachus, and of his palace. When Athena visited Telemachus she took the disguise of Mentor to hide herself from the suitors of Telemachus' mother Penelope. (See Odyssey Book II, lines 255 and 268.) When Odysseus returns to Ithaca, Athena (in the form of Mentor) takes the form of a swallow and the suitors' arrows have no effect on him.

"Telemachus and Mentor" Illustration for "Les Aventures de Télémaque"
The first recorded modern usage of the term can be traced to a book entitled "Les Aventures de Telemaque", by the French writer François Fénelon [1]. In the book the lead character is that of Mentor. This book was published in 1699 and was very popular during the 18th century and the modern application of the term can be traced to this publication [1].
This is the source of the modern use of the word mentor: a trusted friend, counselor or teacher, usually a more experienced person. Some professions have "mentoring programs" in which newcomers are paired with more experienced people in order to obtain good examples and advice as they advance, and schools sometimes have mentoring programs for new students or students who are having difficulties.
Today mentors provide their expertise to less experienced individuals in order to help them advance their careers, enhance their education, and build their networks. Many of the world's most successful people have benefited from having a mentor including:
business people - Freddie Laker mentored Richard Branson
politicians - Aristotle mentored Alexander the Great
actors - Mel Gibson mentored Heath Ledger
athletes - Eddy Merckx (five-time Tour de France winner) mentored Lance Armstrong (seven-time Tour de France winner).
Fictionally, a mentor is a common character in the hero's journey.
Historically, Mentor of Rhodes was a Greek mercenary who at various times fought either for or against Artaxerxes III.

Happy birthday challa! Hope you had a great day & party! We had a terrific weekend-Friday we started out to Red River but only had courage enough (dark rain clouds) to make it to the Abuiquiu Inn. Had a great breakfast, trout & eggs. Dean & Tom rode with us back to Los Alamos & over the top to Jemez Springs. No rain until the city limits!
Monday, Charlie, Ethel, Dean, Ron, Suzie, Charlene, Pete and Bryan(in the Zion)traveled with us to Mountainair & the two ponyz ranch to deliver coffee. Everyone was a good sport about the dirt road. The scenery was outstanding & so worth the ride. Our split service lunch was interesting. If I can get challa to help me I have a photo on my phone to prove that Ron & Suzie really do ride!

Memorial Birhday

Memorial Day! This day has a variety of somber memories for most people. This is traditionally when the summer is launched. Well I like the idea of summer and fun in the sun as better use of the day. When barbeque grills are turning out wonderful foods, kids are running and giggling adults are enjoying some leisure time. I feel that everyone needs to spend some time in the sun, with the ones they love. Too soon will the time of sorrows come into their mist and the reason of this day is all too evident. So Please as a favor to me enjoy memorial day as a happy time. PS many years I tended to the graves of the dead on this day (traditional Memorial day) Then try to enjoy my birthday………….. So enjoy have fun I’ll think it’s a party!

Jim Hern

James "Jim" Edward Hern was interned today. He left a swath of friendships state wide. The Jim I will remember is; his love of family, friends, god, billiards and motorcycles. He and Sharon were the first friends we made in the area when we moved here. While not a member of our eclectic group he was generous and helped many people throughout his life. Thanks for the memories, ride on Jim.
